An Entirely Local Project
Longdendale online is the brainchild of residents local to Longdendale, UK. It was originally created during December 1999 shortly after local residents from Broadbottom, Dave Forward and Heather Ward discovered that a company was buying up domain names relevant to every available area in the British Isles. Rather than have such a local resource disappear to an outsider, they purchased the domain name longdendale.com and created this resource.

Very soon after this, longdendale.com became part of the company Vision Internet Services which was being run by Dave Forward, Heather Ward and Andrew Veitch.

In February 2002, Vision Internet Services stepped in to help rescue old time rival glossop.com by offering hosting and technical assistance for the site. It had previously been bought out several years earlier by a Sunderland based company. The domain name had expired and the site forgotten.
